What is a Circular Economy in IT?
A circular economy covers the manufacture, management, use and disposal of information technology in a way that minimises damage to the environment. It is based on three principles:

- Longevity- keeping products and materials in use.
- Regeneration of natural systems.

Designing Today for the Future
Dell and Apple are two manufacturers we work with who are making great strides in the sustainable field. Their design and innovation teams look at ways in which to create hardware and packaging with greener elements, helping to reduce their impact.
One example from Dell is their “closed-loop” plastics, which is recovered from e-waste. After materials are disassembled, the plastics are shredded, melted and then mixed with virgin plastics for new models. They were also the first in the industry to create packaging from renewably sourced bamboo to make eco-friendly cushioning for select Dell laptops.

As things stand, only a small proportion of e-waste is recycled every year. But now there are more services for the disposal of IT hardware that use eco-friendly practices. Trams uses a qualified ICO registered company who are also approved by the Dept of the Environment and ensure you get the best price for your IT equipment whilst providing peace-of-mind.
Most parts can either be reclaimed or recycled, and all parts are disposed of responsibly. These services will usually arrange the collection of unused hardware and not charge for its disposal. The remaining data is also securely erased with specialist equipment.
